STATUS: Turbo-diesel added for 2020 - The latest Silverado, which arrived for the 2019 model year, offers more of practically everything, including larger cabs, increased load and towing capacities (up to 13,400 pounds) and a wide assortment of powertrains. Chevrolet also managed to reduce the truck's heft by up to 450 pounds (depending on the model), including an 88-pound reduction in frame weight and a switch to lighter suspension components. Both the rear- and four-wheel-drive models are available in regular, extended-length double-cab and four-door crew-cab bodies. There are also eight trim levels, including the RST street truck with added body-colored trim and distinctive wheels. The unique LT Trail Boss comes equipped for off-road adventuring. The powertrain lineup includes a turbocharged four-cylinder engine along with non-turbo gasoline V-6 and V-8s. For 2020, an inline six-cylinder turbo-diesel, rated at 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, joins the lineup. It works through a 10-speed automatic transmission, as does the 6.2-V-8. A six-speed automatic connects to the V-6 and the 5.3 V-8, while an eight-speed automatic is standard with the turbo four-cylinder and optional with the 5.3 V-8.
