Chevrolet Tahoe
STATUS: Unchanged for 2019 - The Suburban's junior partner provides less stowage space, but it can still accommodate up to nine passengers plus a not-unreasonable amount of gear. It can also tow almost any boat, travel or horse trailer without breaking a sweat. Mounted between a stout ladder frame is a 5.3-liter V-8 that produces 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. In addition, a cylinder deactivation program reduces cylinder function to four from eight under light cruising situations, which improves fuel economy. A six-speed automatic transmission with steering-wheel "TapShift" controls is standard, but order the Rally Sport Truck (RST) edition and you can specify a 420-horsepower V-8 (460 pound-feet of torque) that's available in other large General Motors SUVs, including the GMC Yukon Denali and Cadillac Escalade. The powerplant is hooked up to a 10-speed automatic. Other RST content includes a body-colored grille, special magnetic ride control shocks, unique 22-inch wheels, and available Brembo-brand brakes and a Borla-brand performance exhaust system that adds between 7-10 rear-wheel horsepower. The Tahoe can be had with a front-seat center air bag that provides protection between front passengers in the event of a side impact.
