Major Auto Manufacturers Return Repeat Performance
Reflects Quality HRADA Auto Show

Richard Hutsko, chairman of HRADA’s International Auto Show, has received some very good news.

All of the major automotive manufacturers will have a presence at the HRADA’s International Auto Show next year. The show is on track to be on par with 2009 since these auto giants have either maintained the same--or increased the size--of their exhibit space.

And General Motors is returning.

Hutsko says that what’s so remarkable about GM’s participation here is that GM is cutting back on most local shows nationwide.

“GM’s decision to be a part of the HRADA International Auto Show is a reflection on the quality of our event,” says Hutsko, who is the general manager of Checkered Flag Jaguar, Porche and Audi. “GM sustained some major cutbacks with the loss of four of its brands, yet it is returning to Hampton Roads and picking up the same size space as last year. This is huge. It is a kudo to the HRADA, and to the strength of the auto show.”

Organizers are still involved in planning, but some things will definitely return.

“We’ve kept the VIP night, a highly anticipated, super charged evening that is also a benefit to our membership. It promises to be entertaining, elegant and fun, with some new twists. This gives members of the HRADA the chance to swap stories, enjoy some good food and drink, check out what’s new in the industry, and participate in a silent auction which raises money for TCC’s Automotive Technology Program.

“Ford has once again agreed to sponsor free tickets for our military attendees. Little Joe’s car collection was a hit last year, and this time around more local dealers will show off their personal car collections in the lobby at VIP night.”

Hutsko says he’s feeling a renewed sense of energy, more optimism that the tide is finally turning. “I think we’ve bottomed out in the last few months and are now coming out of this horrible, caustic time in our industry. We’ve stuck it out, and are finding ourselves in a position of strength. It helps that some really nice vehicles are hitting the market.

“Bad habits are formed in good times and good habits are formed in bad times. We’ve found that we do what we can to get the biggest bang for our buck, make cuts where we can, and keep the things that are really important to our members. I honestly believe that this is going to be one of the greatest shows ever produced by HRADA.”

The HRADA International Auto Show is from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Jan. 8 and 9 and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 10, 2010 Virginia Beach Convention Center.
